A day in the life of a Swale Volunteer Coordinator

By Tracy Marsh

One of the best parts of working as SATEDA’s Swale volunteer coordinator is the variety. We can just as easily be found out and about around the county with our awareness stands as at a desk in the office arranging DBS checks, hosting training or chasing up outstanding paperwork. We are the first port of call for volunteers from the moment they sign up on our website through to when they complete their volunteering journey with us; providing support all the way through, with phone calls, check ins, social events and regular updates, as well as extra individual support and encouragement, should anyone need it. We often have volunteers who give back their time and knowledge to SATEDA once they have used our services and we always take extra care to ensure that they feel fully supported and safe in their time volunteering with us.

As volunteer coordinators, we have a very visual role in the community and can often be seen on SATEDA social media at events. Our online presence is a big part of our awareness campaign and providing photos and videos showcasing our teams work and their successes, such as at community days or upon reaching goal targets for Project Hope letters, really highlights the good work that SATEDA does. Supporting local partners in Swale and Medway at their events as well as stands at supermarkets, Universities and by distributing our posters and leaflets, really gets the name of SATEDA out there to the public. This promotes our services as well as allowing us to recruit for new volunteers, who are vital to the smooth running of the charity. Without our volunteers, SATEDA would not be able to provide as much support as we do.

Having the opportunity to work with such an amazing group of women, who are all so different in character, background and experience, but who have come together to help others inspires us as much as them. Empowering and encouraging each other to try new things and watching us all grow in confidence and self esteem whilst bonding over a shared goal fills us with pride. There is no better feeling.

Our volunteers are amazing and we thank every single one for being part of our SATEDA family
