Make a difference to the lives of those affected by domestic abuse

Volunteer in Kent with SATEDA and use your time and energy to ensure the safety of women experiencing domestic abuse

Join us in our mission to end domestic abuse and violence against women and girls (VAWG)

At SATEDA, our mission is clear: to end domestic abuse. We know the scale of the challenge, which is why our aim is focused: ensuring no woman goes through it alone. Every woman and child should get the support they need.

We don’t just put a plaster over the problem, we offer a full journey of support through crisis, healing, and towards a future free from abuse and violence. But our reach is only as strong as the people who power it. That’s where you come in.

Volunteers are at the heart of SATEDA. Without you, many of our services wouldn’t exist, leaving women isolated and unsupported. By giving your time, you help us reach more women, offer more hope, and move closer to a world free from domestic abuse.

Women Supporting Women

Domestic abuse can happen to anyone – but the truth is, it happens to women at a far higher rate.

One in four women experience domestic abuse.

This is why our work matters.

Volunteering with us is more than giving time, it’s about showing up for a woman who might otherwise feel invisible, reminding her that support is here, and proving that a different future is possible.

Just by giving a few hours of your time a month, you can help a woman feel less isolated and, with your help, she’ll feel more confident to break the cycle of abuse.

Every call you make, every court visit you attend, every conversation at a drop in tells her she’s not alone.

Volunteer roles available

Due to the nature of our work some of these roles are restricted to women under the 2010 Equality Act.

For women affected by domestic abuse, walking into court can feel overwhelming. Your presence can make a huge difference.

Step in where it matters most and sit beside her offering a calm and steady voice, take notes on her behalf, offer reassurance

You have the power to ensure a woman doesn’t have to face court alone.

  • No experience needed as full training will be delivered
  • Commitment: just 2 days per month
  • Reasonable travel expenses to court paid
  • DBS check

Help a woman make a decision about her safety

We’re looking for volunteers to help at our drop in centres. Women come here seeking advice and comfort. As a volunteer, you’ll be a steady presence, listening with compassion and care.

Sometimes, just one conversation can help a woman feel strong enough to take her next step.

  • No experience needed as full training will be delivered
  • Commitment: just 2 days per month
  • Reasonable travel expenses to drop ins paid
  • DBS check

For many women, the hardest days come after the first steps to safety.

As a Wellbeing Caller, you’ll reach out to women who’ve already received support from SATEDA, offering a friendly check-in, a listening ear, and the reassurance that they are not alone.

It’s not about fixing everything. It’s about being there, one conversation at a time.

  • No experience needed as full training will be delivered
  • Commitment: just 2 days per month
  • DBS check

When women are facing financial hardship, even the basics can feel out of reach. Our Community Clothing Assistants are there to make sure women feel welcomed and supported as they choose what they need for themselves and their children.

From greeting women, to helping them find the right clothing for them, to packing bags to take home, you’ll be part of a team that restores dignity and hope.

  • No experience needed as full training will be delivered
  • Time commitment for this role is flexible.
  • Hours: We mainly need help Wednesday mornings and Friday afternoons.

Please email communityclothing@sateda.org if you’re interested in volunteering.

Two in three women in UK prisons have experienced domestic abuse. Behind those walls are stories waiting to be heard, voices waiting to be valued.

Through Project Hope, you can become a pen pal to a woman in prison by offering compassion, and the gift of human connection.

Sometimes, the smallest act of a few written words can be a turning point.

  • Commitment of at least 5 letters per month

Please email valerie.williams@sateda.org if you’re interested in volunteering for Project Hope.

Change starts with people like you, passionate members of the community who want to make a difference. Domestic abuse is a widespread issue that thrives in silence, and we believe raising awareness and starting conversations are key to tackling it.

By joining SATEDA as an ambassador, you’ll help highlight this issue and support our work in Swale and Kent to empower women and families affected by domestic abuse.

Hours: A few hours per month, when required

Location: Remote, but must be able to attend some community events

Please email comms@sateda.org if you’re interested in volunteering as a Community Ambassador

"When I went through it myself, I didn’t have help, and it was difficult. Now I use my own experience to help others going through the same thing by going to court with them, talking with them and keeping them company when cases get delayed."
