General Practices
We deliver an evidence-based, effective and cost-effective programme to health professionals in Kent to improve the response, support and referral of patients experiencing domestic abuse.
Domestic abuse is a health issue
- In the UK, 1 in 4 women experience domestic abuse in their lifetime
- 80% women who experience domestic abuse seek support from health professionals at least once
- Only 15% of these women have any reference to abuse in their medical record in primary care
The emotional, physical and mental health impacts of domestic abuse are huge, including memory loss, gastrointestinal problems, PTSD symptoms, suicidal thoughts, trouble sleeping, physical injuries, depression, vaginal discharge, chronic pain.
By training and working with the primary care sector through the delivery of the flagship ‘IRIS programme’ for General Practices, together we improve the response and referral of women who experience or have experienced domestic abuse, ensuring their safety, a better quality of life and improved wellbeing.
