Join the 16 Days of Activism campaign💜🎗️

Are you ready to campaign with us and make a difference to the lives of women and children who have experienced domestic abuse? The annual 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence begins on Monday 25th November (the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women) until 10th December (Human Rights Day).

Swale has one of the highest rates of domestic violence in Kent and consistently ranks among the top areas in the UK for reported cases. We’re campaigning to help change this and we hope you will join us to make Swale and Kent a safer place to live.

Gender-based violence is deeply rooted in societal attitudes and power dynamics. Here are just a few alarming statistics:

  • On average, a woman in the UK is killed by a man every three days (ONS, 2023).
  • 71% of women aged 16-59 in the UK report having experienced some form of sexual harassment (ONS, 2023).
  • 1 in 4 women in the UK will experience domestic abuse in their lifetime (ONS, 2023).
  • Reports of rape are higher than ever recorded in England and Wales, but conviction rates remain alarmingly low.

Our goals:

  1. We want to raise awareness of gender-based violence and the warning signs to domestic abuse.
  2. We want to build solidarity with local organisations and individuals working to combat violence against women.
  3. We want to share strategies for tackling violence and press the government for action.
  4. We want to educate on the impact of violence against women and teach and learn from the next generation.
  5. Encourage open conversations on healthy relationships and domestic abuse.

We’re distributing posters in public spaces and workplaces. Consider displaying one in your community, office, or school to raise awareness.

We’re handing out informative cards to schools and public spaces to help educate the next generation on recognising and addressing gender-based violence. Contact comms@sateda.org if you would like the following cards to hand out at your organisation.

Follow us on social media (@satedacharity) and reshare our posts throughout the campaign. Amplifying these messages helps broaden the conversation and reach more people.
